Kylie Dupuis -(12 yrs) grew up in a riding atmosphere at her grandfather Tom Reinecke’s Renaissance Farm. She began riding at the ripe old age of 4. When she was ready to really learn to ride she went to the European Pony School for a good solid start (you know Mom’s can’t teach their kid’s anything). She currently takes lessons from Darren Taplin and she and her horse often accompany her grandmother to lessons with Lilo Fore. She has been a member of Hoofbeats Pony Club for 2 years and was a member of the HBPC dressage team which took 2nd place at the Sierra Pacific Regional Dressage Rally this year. She and Kiwi have been partners since February and have shown successfully both astride and in her side saddle. In addition to her riding, she recently won a creative writing award from her school district and was a key player on the Mark West girl’s champion basketball team. Being able to ride in Dressage in the Wine Country is a dream comes true for her.

Intermission Show - Patchworks
Patchworks riding school is part of Patchworks farm a non-profit community organization working with special needs children in Santa Rosa , California . We currently serve children who live at the Family Support center, a homeless shelter in Santa Rosa .
We operate on a 5 acre farm with a big red barn, animals to care for and an organic garden to explore. Our goal is to help homeless and all youth embody respect and kindness for people, animals and the earth. We do this by creating a supportive farm atmosphere where youth can develop skills, self-esteem, and empathy for all creatures. The children care for and learn to ride horses, help with the chickens and general farm chores. We combine a safe place to be around horses (and ride) for at risk youth with their ¡home-schooled peers and let the magic happen. This work builds a container of love for a population of children who deeply need our help and support.
“The children think they are learning how to ride a horse, I know they are learning compassion and a whole lot more…”

Art Gurnig
Art began training horses professionally in 1966. He started a career as a farrier in 1971. He began full time training 1980. In 1986 Art started doing bodywork on horses. He discovered that the horses trained and performed far better with comfortable and healthier bodies. His successful career includes over 30 championships and reserve championships won by him and his students at regional and national levels. Art has trained horses for reining, cutting, working cow horse, western riding, western pleasure, trail, jumping, dressage, gaited horses, jousting, vaulting, driving, and racing.
Fairness is the key to all of Art’s training. He defines fairness as the horse always having a good opportunity to find a way to be happy, comfortable and healthy. All of his techniques, methods, and procedures are based on this philosophy.
Art Grunig has studied bodywork in the United States, France, and Italy. His list of credentials include: massage, cranial sacral, visceral manipulation, lymphatic drainage, sports massage, watsu, and tantsu. Art also has developed a form of bodywork called Reflex Balancing.
One of the interesting accomplishments is the training of two draft horses that have won money in the National Reining Horse Association ridden by their owner Kelly Bailey.

Creeky Rouston & Chelsea Sibley - Pas de Deux
Both Chelsey and Creeky have performed numerous times through the years to the delight of Dressage in the Wine Country audiences. We appreciate their support through our 25 years and what their creativity and riding accomplishments have brought to the sport of dressage in California.
Chelsey Siblely
Chelsey is a dressage competitor and trainer based in Oakland, California. As a young rider she has won numerous national awards and medals.
Creeky Routson has been involved and has loved horses her entire life. She began being involved with them by coaxing neighbor horses over to the pasture fence so that she and her sisters could hop on and ride bareback and bridle less around the pasture, sometimes finding out later these wonderful four legged partners in crime were often not even broke.
Later this love of horses turned to more structured riding in western stock horse then eventing and finally her passion dressage. Creeky is “S” dressage judge and an “r” eventing judge. She lives in Walnut Creek CA. with her three sons which are the other loves of her life, Sterling (22) Chance (20) and Blaze (13) and her husband Max. She has had many top ten USDF wins over the years including 2000 USDF 4th level horse of the year on her own horse Cloud and 2002 USDF 2nd level horse of the year on her friends horse Anushka as well as the USDF Freestyle challenge. One of the highlight in her freestyle career was with Wild Ride freestyle partner, Teresa Trull producing with UC Berkeley Music Festival, Le Carousel Du Roi in 2000 and again in 2002. Creeky enjoys the challenge of the freestyles; it adds an extra thrill and endless artistic expression. Most important to keep in mind in freestyles and in all your riding is, its hard and it takes a lot of work but we are here to enjoy the path not just the end result and to have fun doing it.

Tanya Vik - FEI Freestyle
Tanya Vik was born with a love for horses, a passion to be around them, and a determination to ride. She started riding when she was 10 and later worked her way through college riding people’s horses. After graduating with a degree in small business, she decided to follow her dreams and focus on teaching and training full time. Tanya’s training business is at Riverside Equestrian Center in Petaluma. Her partnership with Divinity 3, an 11 year old Hanoverian gelding, began several years ago when he came for training and Tanya decided to take a chance and purchase him. Their most recent competitive highlight has been attending the National I-1 Championships in Gladstone, New Jersey this summer and earning a spot on the Developing Rider list for the United States Equestrian Team. Prior to this, they won the USDF Region 7 I-1 Championship in 2005 as well as many other championships and highpoints. Tanya and Vinnie are very excited to work on moving up to Grand Prix. Tanya accredits much of her success to hard work, perseverance, and the opportunity to work with wonderful trainers like Sandy Howard, Lilo Fore, and David Hunt. Tanya also owns Frames for Less, a wholesale/retail picture framing store in Napa. Tanya lives in Sonoma with Larry, their 3 dogs, cat, cows, and retired horses in the back pasture.

Merrie Stephens - Dressage Driving
I've been involved with horses my entire life. My grandmother, Ada Brown, was a professional horse trainer and I was very lucky to have her influence and wisdom in my life. I started riding dressage after college and was once again lucky to find good teachers in Southern California. I schooled regularly with Carolyn West and Leslie Webb as well as taking advantage of the many clinic opportunities. I showed dressage and trained dressage horses at my small ranch in Ridgecrest, for about 15 years. I took up driving after a back injury ended my competitive riding. I started driving a young Section A Welsh Pony that I had purchased as a lesson pony prospect. I didn't know much about driving, but had seen a man named Hardy Zantke give a driven dressage demonstration at the CDS annual convention a few years before. I contacted Hardy and he became my mentor. I started showing my little pony in Combined Driving Events and the little lesson pony prospect did himself proud. High Sierra Armed and Dangerous (Ruger) and I ended up on the USEF International High Performance Training Long List just 3 years later. I now compete with a pair of ponies at the Advanced level and am developing a four-in-hand. I moved to Northern California in Dec 2006 and in June 2007 purchased some property in Arbuckle just north of Sacramento. I am now operating the Red on Right Ranch, amidst the almonds and vineyards where I teach driven and ridden dressage and train driving horses. |

About Ursala
With a nod of the head and a knowing, sly smile, Ursula would begin her magic. Before you knew what had happened, you were completely absorbed in her charming voice and ready to volunteer for anything. An undaunted, passionate advocate for all animals – particularly horses – Ursula and her cause were irresistible.
Ursula raised and bred some of the world’s most beautiful Trakehners, who thrived under her love and care. She established the Horse Rescue, Releif and Retirement Fund to ensure that unwanted or mistreated horses would be given loving, stable homes. And she passed on her knowledge through teaching and talking, both of which she did on a regular, even persistent basis.
Ursula is and will continue to be deeply missed, especially by those animals to whom she dedicated her life. The rest of us are now left with the extraordinary task of carrying on her work and making sure that her message will remain strong. “I cannot imagine a heaven without horses,” Ursula used to say. Smile, if you have the same wish.
2007 Winners
Gail Davis –
Gail Davis is a real life local hero, having rescued some 25 horses from certain death. Industry estimates are that there are about 50,000 horses a year being killed on the Premarin(r) farms in Canada. Gail heard that and instead of crying about how horrible it was, she took action. She made several trips and purchased foals from the farms to save them from slaughter. She and her partner Mark Hanson tamed these nearly wild horses, nursed them to health, taught them that people can be kind and trustworthy and have helped re-home them. They have paid for their purchase and all rehabilitation expenses out of pocket. 'Gail's babies' aren't so little... they are all big horses, usually cross breeds of draft or heavy horse stock. But they are gorgeous, show quality animals thanks to her wonderful care and nurturing.
Sydni Davenport and Melissa Percell –
These two generous, devoted, knowledgeable women were responsible for saving 60 Arabian mares, foals and stallions from starvation or slaughter. These horses, many with quite good bloodlines, were running in a large Lake County pasture as a wild herd without enough food or care or human contact. The numbers were out of control. Stallions roamed with bands of mares. Mares had foals at their sides and were pregnant.
“It was a jaw dropping sight,” said Melissa of the first day they saw the horses. “There were so many horses swirling around like schools of fish. They were hungry and there was no food.” That day the women bought and unloaded 40 bales of hay. That day they spent 12 hours treating these feral horses that needed medical attention.
A rescue group had been there the day before and due to poor handling, the horses were very nervous. Several stallions were severely injured from trying to protect their band. Mares were without their foals, and foals were without their moms. “It was heartbreaking,” said Melissa. “We patched up what horses we could. The owner allowed us to take some horses with us. We left around 10 p.m.
That started many trips over Mt. St. Helena back and forth between Lake and Sonoma Counties for three days, at their own cost, on their own time. “The thought of the horses up there with no food and barely enough water made our stomachs hurt.”
Sydni began an email campaign through the Golden Gate Arabian Horse Association and soon other horses lovers joined the women for trips over the mountain daily to feed horses, catch horses, sort horses that could be loaded. “Many of us work full time jobs” Melissa said. “We worked with the horses on site until 2 a.m., and then would return the next day to help more.”
Finally all the horses were removed from the site and placed by the women in either permanent or long term temporary foster guardianship in safe homes with ample food, water and shelter. Many stallions have been gelded. Many mares have aborted. Many foals have been born.
Today Sydni and Melissa say that “as individuals we could not save the herd, but as a group we did. Thank you for giving these horses a second chance and a happy ending.”
This description is only the tip of the iceberg of this story. These are truly two beautiful human beings.

| Nick Bertelli |
| Nick Bertelli was born and raised right here in Sonoma County. His family takes pride in calling wine country home as well. Nick has been an international flight attendant for United Airlines based in San Francisco for the last seven years. However, long before the desire to fly struck Nick, he knew riding would dictate most of the decisions in his life. Nick has been training with Darren Taplin, who will be performing here this evening, for the last 10 years. During the last three years he has had the opportunity to train intensively in England with Sandy Phillips, the British Dressage Team Selector.
Nick’s family has stood behind his passion for this sport since he was a young child of seven and his parents bought him his first pony. Today, that same support is strong. In January his older brother Gregory, and his fiancée Lynnette purchased Harlekin, a 12 year old Trakehner gelding for Nick. Harley, as he is called in the family and Nick are schooling Prix St. George, and Intermediare I, and will be making their debut in the winter show season. Nick is grateful to his sponsors, Peter and Paula Henze, proprietors of Fox Barn Vineyards. Their support and belief in him throughout the years has made all of the training and showing possible. Nick’s family and sponsors are all here tonight.
