The Tambourine 4-H Vaulters are a 4-H group based in Sonoma. Their members range in age from four years to 40 years old. These Vaulters have many International, National and Regional wins to their credits.
Vaulting is the art of gymnastics on the back of a moving horse. Through the activities of the vaulting program, the members become skilled in vaulting and in addition, gain knowledge in the areas of grooming, feeding, sheltering and general care of the horse. Each of the vaulters competes as an individual and as a member of an eight person team. There are two aspects of competition: Compulsories and Kur. There are six compulsory exercises followed by a freestyle Kur. Vaulting is offered at seven different levels: Tiny Tot, Beginning Trot, Trot, Beginning Canter, Bronze Silver and Gold.
Their Horses
Tambourine's Monte is a special case.... Losing an eye, and a fair portion of bone during surgery for a tumor, following a long course of chemotherapy, the big Clydesdale has returned to active vaulting competition.
